FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE TRACK: LICEO SCIENTIFICO LEONARDO DA VINCI OF MILAN AND POLITECNICO DI MILANO TOGETHER FOR STEM RACING ITALY

A direct bridge between the classroom and cutting-edge engineering: a group of students from Liceo Scientifico Leonardo da Vinci of Milan entered the gates of Politecnico di Milano for an experience that blends competition, science, and a passion for racing cars.

The collaboration was established for the Liceo Scientifico Leonardo da Vinci di Milano's participation in Stem Racing Italy, a national event that challenges student teams to design a high-performance Formula 1 car.

Specifically, the project involved a select group of students from Liceo Scientifico Leonardo Da Vinci of Milan, working alongside researchers and technicians from the Aerodynamics Laboratory of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, led by Professor Alex Zanotti, to tackle the aerodynamic study of a miniature single-seater.

The students were able to validate their aerodynamic findings through tests conducted in the DAER Laboratory’s educational wind tunnel. These tests were aimed at identifying the most promising car configuration to be used during the national competition.

This partnership between Liceo Scientifico Leonardo Da Vinci of Milan and DAER - Politecnico di Milano confirms the importance of investing in young talent even before they reach university. It transforms student curiosity into professional expertise in a strategic field driven by youthful passion, such as racing vehicle aerodynamics.
