NABUCCO ERC Grant: Collaboration with Penn State University and Dissemination at NASA’s Langley Research Center

Professor Chiara Bisagni recently traveled to the United States for a series of academic and research engagements.

Her visit began at Penn State University, as part of a two years collaboration between the research groups ERC Advanced Grant “NABUCCO - New Adaptive and BUCkling-driven Composite aerospace structures” and the NSF grant “LEAP HI: GOALI: Accelerating Design for Additive Manufacturing of Smart Multimaterial Devices”.

Visit during which she collaborated with Professors Mary Frecker and Lorraine Dowler, and with PhD student Bethany Parkinson.

The collaboration focuses on investigating the compressive stiffness behavior of magneto-active elastomer beams and plates under quasi-static axial loading and externally applied magnetic fields while also exploring themes of diverse leadership within engineering teams.

Following her time at Penn State, Professor Bisagni visited NASA’s Langley Research Center, where she presented results of the NABUCCO project. During her visit, she also had the opportunity to discuss potential future collaborations and visited key facilities, such as the Structures and Materials Research Laboratory, and the Landing and Impact Research Facility.
