Earth Observation

Understanding planet Earth and predicting its patterns and evolution is today more pressing and fascinating than ever. The seminar will look into the current accomplishments, future trends and challenges of Earth Observation in Europe

Earth Observation from space is a field where Europe is extremely active and that requires a close partnership among scientists, decision-makers, industry and various actors in the international landscape.


Speaker

Maria Piera Padula is currently working as Coordinator for the FutureEO programme for the European Space Agency. She holds a BSc in Aerospace Engineering, a MSc in Space Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and a Diploma at Alta Scuola Politecnica. Before joining the European Space Agency, she has worked in multiple roles within the European space ecosystem. She has started her career as a Graduate Trainee at the European Space Agency HQ in Paris. She has worked in the domain of Space Surveillance and Tracking and Space Situational Awareness and at the German Aerospace Center in Bonn, Germany in cooperation with the European Commission. She has then joined Airbus first as Study and Proposal Manager for Earth Observation and Science in Stevenage, UK and then as Earth Observation Programme and Cluster Manager in Rome, Italy. In 2024 she has joined the ESA Center for Earth Observation and she has been focussed her work on shaping the future European Earth Observation programmes.
