A lithium-ion battery module was dropped from a height of 15 metres under controlled conditions to assess its resistance to severe impact loading.
The test represents an important step toward the safe integration of battery systems in electric vehicles and aircrafts.
The activity was carried out within the laboratory for electric vehicle safety, established at LaST Laboratory with funding from the PNRR MOST programme, National Centre for Sustainable Mobility, as part of its Air Mobility activities.
The test involved Prof. Alessandro Airoldi, Prof. Paolo Carlo Astori, Antonio Parcelj, Edoardo Novembre and Prof. Antonio Maria Caporale, with the contribution of the CrashLab and SIAMS research groups.
