DAER PARTICIPATION IN GRAND OPENING OF MITEB HANGAR FOR AIRSHIP RESEARCH - KAMENZ, GERMANY

On Sept. 14, 2026, the German company MITEB GmbH opened a newly-built facility dedicated to the experimentation and manufacturing of electrically-propelled lighter-than-air (LTA) flying robots and motor-gliders.

The new hangar and annexed technical facility has been prepared on the airport of Kamenz, a former airbase in the Land Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.

At the beginning of the day, a selected technical panel offered an insight on the most recent development and opportunities of electric power-trains in conjunction with LTA and light aviation technology.

Prof. Carlo E.D. Riboldi (DAER) was invited to deliver the opening speech, which covered also updates in propulsion technology for airships, supported through project IPROP. Other contributions in the technical panel came from Dr. Sylvain Allano, chief scientific officer of Flying Whales (France), Dr. Andreas Burkart, co-founder of the airship drone manufacturer Windreiter UG (Germany), and Prof.Dr. Johannes Markmiller, TU Dresden (Germany).

The panel was moderated by Dr. Udo Berthold, founder and CEO of MITEB GmbH (Germany).

Following the panel, during the gate opening ceremony further speeches were given by Dr. Berthold, the Sachsen-Anhalt State Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Dr. Regina Kraushaar, the mayor of the city of Kamenz, Dr. Michael Preuß, and Dr. Frank Neumann, director of the initiative U-LTA, dedicated to the upscaling of lighter-than-air technological field.

The ceremony was concluded with a flight of the LTA robot Santos, and of the motor-glider Silent Electro, both produced by MITEB.
